Jeremy Brown has created the ultimate romantic rendez-vous and the best part is, you don’t even have to leave the house. South African-born artist, Jeremy Brown, is a self-taught, abstract artist who has been making paintings during intimacy for over a decade. In 2009 he launched Love is Art, a kit sent to couples to cover themselves in paint and create one-of-a-kind masterpieces while in the bedroom.

The idea was conceived when a close friend complimented Brown on a painting in his house. After discovering how Brown made the painting with his girlfriend, she asked him to provide her with everything she needed to make a sexy painting with her husband on their anniversary. Brown put together a package with the materials needed and wrote a directional note for them to follow. The couple loved it so much that the concept of Love is Art was born.

Brown spent over 6 months researching and developing ingredients to ensure a safe experience for artists using the kit. Brown worked with a cosmetic chemist to create a base paint using natural ingredients while maintaining an opacity that held strong when spread on canvas. Covering all bases, Love is Art also includes a painters tarp to protect surfaces from paint splatters, a specially-treated cotton canvas that prevents paint from permeating, disposable slippers to make a clean walk from the canvas to the shower, and even a body scrubber.

Early on in his art education, Brown fell in love with the works of Mark Rothko. Mark’s work influenced Brown’s art escapades as well as 1960’s French artist Yves Klein and various performance art pieces by Andy Warhol.

According to Brown, “Art takes patience, dedication, practice, creativity, open mind, and an open heart…so does love. Love is art.”
