New Museum Gala Honors Rem Koolhaas

For some reason, the New Museum gala never made it on our radar for the 32 Art Parties That You Won’t Want to Miss This Spring and Summer, but alas, it happened last night April 3, 2019 at Cipriani Wall Street. Hosted by Lisa Phillips, Toby Devan Lewis Directorof the New Museum; Massimiliano Gioni, Edlis Neeson Artistic Director; James Keith Brown, President, this year’s gala honored Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.

The evening included speeches by Nicolai Ourousoff and Massimiliano Gioni, a special art auction, led by Simon de Pury, and beats by DJ Mick.

The room was packed with notable attendees like Cindy Sherman, Emily Ratajkowski, Sienna Miller, John Waters, David Byrne, KAWS, James Murphy, Marilyn Minter, Leelee Sobieski, Cynthia Rowley, Taryn Simon & Jake Paltrow, Amy & Chris Astley, John Giorno & Ugo Rondinone, Rashid Johnson and Nari Ward to name a few.

Check out moments from the evening below.

About New Museum: The New Museum is the only museum in New York City exclusively devoted to contemporary art and is a center for exhibitions, information, and documentation about living artists from around the world. From its beginnings as a one-room office on Hudson Street to the inauguration of its first freestanding building on the Bowery designed by SANAA, the New Museum continues to be a place of experimentation and a hub of new art and new ideas.
