Passersby flocked to Astoria on Saturday as street artists, with paintbrushes and spray cans, worked throughout the day on intricate murals in Welling Court. This corner of Astoria has been revived by storefront-after-storefront of impressive murals, each as unique as the next, lining its streets.
For the seventh year, the Welling Court Mural Project, presented by Ad Hoc Art, helps to make art accessible to everyone in its community by celebrating public art and demonstrating varied artistic styles. From playful characters to commentary on social issues, the works in the project help to highlight the many views and varying perspectives of its artists.
More than a hundred murals are on view until next year’s gathering, when artists come together once again to revive this year’s work with new projects, just as they have done in years past. In the meantime, the current collection of murals makes for a colorful, visually stunning stroll around the streets of Queens.
The Welling Court Mural Project is free and open to the public 24/7 at 11-90 Welling Court, Astoria, NY.
