Last Thursday, October 11, 2018, Creative Time celebrated their annual gala with a wildly successful dinner and party in honor of artist Pedro Reyes and Creative Time’s new Executive Director Justine Ludwig. Gala guests and patrons descended upon Bushwick, Brooklyn for a night of celebration marked by “tropical-brutalist vibes,” free-flowing tequila, and who’s who guest list. It was a night to remember, helping Creative Time to raise the essential funds to support public arts and the diverse voices and perspectives of artists everywhere.
The gala kicked off at Bushwick’s 99 Scott where dinner goers ushered in a new chapter for Creative Time under the guidance of Ludwig with a shot of tequila. Co-chairs Mary-Kate Olsen, Olivier Sarkozy, Jon Neidich (board chair), Alessandra Brawn, Alexandre De Betak, and Sofia Sanchez De Betak joined guests in custom cocktails by Maestro Dobel tequila and Mexican-inspired fare by chef Yann Nury. On-site, Reyes presented eighteen of his large-scale works on paper – five of which sold to benefit Creative Time. Ludwig invited Athena Art Finance co-founder and CEO Andrea Danese to join her on stage to introduce the newly created Athena Art Finance Social Impact Award.
After dinner, gala guests made their way to 53 Scott for the Creative Time After- Party; a Mexican fiesta inspired discotheque complete with hanging piñatas and disco lights. Enrique Olvera’s Cosme served fresh tacos under multicolor string lights while Tulum-based Gitano Sounds, JKriv, and Moullinex kept the crowd dancing. The warehouse party hosted by CT Board Member Waris Ahluwalia, Grupo Gitano’s owner James Gardner, CT board chair Jon Neidich & Alessandra Brawn, and Alexandre De Betak & Sofia Sanchez De Betak, lasted well into the night (2 am), providing the perfect closing for the gala celebration of the year.
