Summer in the city can be aggressive, to say the least. It’s impossible to escape the heat wave that sweeps through the concrete corridors and leaves you feeling “moist” (I know, terrible word, but it’s the only one that vividly describes the way the sweat sits on your forehead until you gently dab it off with your sleeve). No wonder so many New Yorkers escape to the Hamptons so they can actually enjoy the heat instead of slow cooking in a subway with no AC.

The beach is the highlight, of course, but it’s not the only reason why the Hamptons are such an appealing destination. Away from the bustle of city life, artists have fled eastward for many years to search for inspiration and work on their art, leaving the Hamptons with a legacy and a reputation to uphold. From being a haven for renown artists such as Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Willem de Kooning, and Robert Rauschenberg, the Hamptons’ art scene is now made up of several galleries and institutions that will intrigue any art lover.

Reputable for being the New Yorker’s getaway, a trip to the Hamptons is not complete without a few gallery visits so we’ve tried to make it easy for you by compiling some of our favorite galleries you should check out this summer!
