Has it been too long since you’ve had evening plans? Well, you’re in luck: catch the closing reception of Rainbow Country at Paradice Palase, a solo exhibition of works on paper curated by M. Charlene Stevens of Arcade Project Curatorial on Thursday, July 30th starting at 6PM. Yes, that’s right – an in-person closing reception complete with social distancing measures in place. Guests who RSVP will be admitted to the gallery 6 at a time in 30 minute sessions, during which time they’ll experience Kevin Darmanie’s mixed media works. Rainbow Country features works completed by Darmanie between 2009 and 2012, where the artist examines uniquely Caribbean attitudes, tropes and social dynamics as they relate to contemporary American life, all through a graphic novel-style format. As a figurative painter, Darmanie brings an almost digital flair to his mixed media works, citing digital media and social sharing as influences that inform his work. ABOUT ARCADE PROJECT CURATORIAL Founded by M. Charlene Stevens in 2016, Arcade Project began as a digital publication focused on contemporary fine art and its cultural context. For four years, the organization has functioned primarily as an online platform for discovery – featuring exhibition reviews, artist interviews, art fair highlights, film criticism, and the occasional editorial piece. Now with its expansion into a nomadic curatorial platform, Arcade Project continues its mission to foster the careers of emerging and mid-career creatives, launching thought-provoking exhibitions. ABOUT PARADICE PALASE PARADICE PALASE is an arts platform promoting the democratization of the art world for creators and patrons. They support emerging artists and foster accessible arts patronage by producing collectible arts retails, online content, and exhibitions. Founded in 2017 by Kat Ryals and Lauren Hirshfield, they connected after each recognizing barriers to entry for artists and collectors in the contemporary art landscape. Thus PARADICE PALASE is the love child of DIY and art world utopia, with a flare of the bold and brilliant.
