Last night, Creative Time hosted their Spring Gala honoring the dynamic duo behind Opening Ceremony, Humberto Leon & Carol Lim, at City Point, Brooklyn. As per usual, the who’s who in the art, fashion and film world were in attendance including Chloë Sevigny, Broad City stars Ilana Glazer & Abbi Jacobson, and Waris Ahluwalia. Attendees were greeted by champagne, wine, and Bombay Sapphire Gin cocktails, some of which came out of a bathtub, which we later found out was inspired by the convergence of cultures celebrated through The Pledges of Allegiance project. The Bombay Bubble Bath was a play on the history of gin and its Dutch and British roots.
As guests sipped on cocktails, on display for most of the evening until they melted, were three surprise ice sculptures by acclaimed installation artist, Jordan Wolfson.
The big unveiling came as guests made their way to dinner and were the first to see the official debut of the Pledges of Allegiance project (top image), where 16 noted artists were invited to create a flag that speaks to an issue they are passionate about. For one night only, 5 flags from the evening were auctioned off – created by Marilyn Minter, Vik Muniz, Trevor Paglen, Pedro Reyes and Rirkrit Tiravanija – with all proceeds supporting the project and Creative Time.
Additional guests included Mia Moretti, Lily Kwong, Chloe Wise, Kate Greer, Nanette Lepore, Kara Walker, Marilyn Minter, Wes Gordon, Maria Brito, Jen Catron &Paul Outlaw, Alex Da Corte, Elizabeth Diller, Rujeko Hockley, Simone Leigh, Vinhood Matadin,Justin Peck, and Inez van Lamsweerd.
