The newest (and quite possibly most luxurious) way to experience art has arrived via an opportunity for guests to retreat to a serene location and experience site-specific art, made in real-time.

It’s no surprise that after months of isolation city dwellers are increasingly seeking a change of scenery, with boutique hotels offering the escape they need. The hot summer months are a particularly ideal time to ditch the sweaty confines of the city in favor of more pleasant environments.

The appeal of wine country hasn’t been lost in the pandemic, particularly in more secluded areas of The Hamptons in New York and of course, Sonoma County in California. For guests at the newly remodeled MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa, a weekend – or, let’s face it, any day – reprieve means access to updated luxury amenities along with exclusive access to artists in residence in partnership by Tappan Collective.

Wine country inspires more than just a diverse palette. Through their new partnership, the MacArthur x Tappan Collective is creating an ongoing artist-in-residency program that will showcase the work of emerging artists throughout the hotel’s property and space.

The new residency program in collaboration with Tappan kicked off on August 9th with LA-based artist Cheryl Humphreys, and the property will subsequently be welcoming artists such as Jeff KrausSara Marlowe Hall and more on property to create, collaborate and showcase unique art throughout the five-acre parcel property.

Humphrey’s residency extends through August 14th, as she will explore MacArthur Place’s features and location through her signature paper and pressure technique to create exclusive artwork. The work she creates during this residency will be on view permanently throughout the hotel for both guests and the public to experience. Humphreys will also offer a reservations-only Still Life Drawing Workshop at MacArthur Place on Thursday, August 13.

“After embarking on our successful artist-in-residence programs with Bay Area collage artist Kelley O’Leary and woodworking artist Aleksandra Zee, we knew we wanted to continue this program and expand our network,” said General Manager Rubén Cambero. “We discovered Tappan Collective to be the perfect partner for this and are thrilled about this collaboration. We share the same mission to support and amplify exceptional emerging artists and we look forward to welcoming these artists to MacArthur Place, showcasing their work throughout our property and having our guests meet and be inspired by their talents.”
