“Basel feels slow this year,” is a phrase we’re sure you’ve heard the past few days. But fear not! We’re bringing you 29 events that are taking place down in Miami for Art Basel that we’re pretty psyched for. Most fairs open December 5th, which leaves you plenty of time to check out the cultural experiences taking place throughout the city. From panels to cocktail parties, there’s a little something for everyone. We’ll be adding more events as they come, so watch this space. Check out our food and bar guide. 

 

1. This will be the fourth thematic exhibition to be presented in the Miami Design District during Art Basel Miami Beach by Larry Gagosian and Jeffrey Deitch. Pop Minimalism | Minimalist Pop will kick off Art Basel with an opening reception on December 4. Moore Building, 191 NE 40th St, Miami

 

2. On December 4, Baby Jane will team up with artist Suzy Kellems Dominik to host an Art Basel Miami kickoff party. Music by DJ Melladrama and drinks by Tito’s Vodka and Mezcal Sacrvm. 500 Brickell AVE, 105E

 

 

3. To kick off Miami Art Week, the EDITION’S Basement will play host to the Faith Connexion x Whitewall Issue Launch with Swizz Beatz at the Basement Bowl on December 4. Creative Time and Danny Krivit are also set to host the Basement’s Anniversary party. 2901 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach

4. WALL at W South Beach will once host festivities that will begin Tuesday, December 4 with Favela Beach Art Basel edition hosted by Art Department, Salome and Gad. The party continues with Guy Gerber, Behrouz and Chicco Secci on turntables on Wednesday, December 5; Erick Morillo and Vanjee on Thursday, December 6; Paris Hilton returns as host and DJ for the 5th year on Friday, December 7; and on Saturday December 8, Nic Fanciullo, Rony Seikaly and Chicco Secci. 5. InList returns to Miami for the 4th installment of its Art Basel anniversary party in celebration of “Miami’s Godfather of Wynwood” Moishe Mana’s birthday on Tuesday, December 4 at the Old RC Cola Plant in Wynwood. 7. Debuting at the Nautilus Hotel on Miami Beach for Miami Art Week, multimedia artist Suzy Kellems Dominik will be presenting INVISIBLE, a series of soft-sculpture totems that surrealistically present the female body and investigate the social and cultural implications of beauty and age in monumental form. To coincide with the series, there will be a panel discussion on December 5 with the artist, art dealer Karla Ferguson, business strategist Idalia Salsamendi and will be moderated by our very own Kristina Adduci. 8. On December 5 online platform Artsy will take over Tropicale, the casual al fresco venue at the EDITION with a special product launch co-hosted with Prospect NY where limited-edition items by New York-based artist Misha Kahn will be unveiled. The Miami Beach EDITION, 2901 Collins Avenue

 

9. Perrier-Jouët and DAZED will host an art panel discussion on December 5 at L’Eden by Perrier Jouët on Faena Beach. Dazed Arts and Culture Editor Ashleigh Kane will moderate the event with Artist Bethan Laura Wood, Nina Johnson of Contemporary Art Gallery Nina Johnson and Art Writer and Critic Monica Uszerowicz as panelists. 10. The House of Ruinart will host an incredible artistic performance from world-renowned Chinese artist Liu Bolin at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden on Wednesday, December 5 at 4:30 p.m. Music by DJ Timo Weiland and a live performance by Bolin, better known as the ‘invisible man’, as he camouflages himself into the garden. Miami Beach Botanical Garden, 2000 Convention Center Drive

 

11. On December 5The Bass, Miami Beach’s contemporary art museum will celebrate their exhibition The Haas Brothers: Ferngully, with a private reception from 6-8 PM. 15. On December 6, the Pérez Art Museum will host its signature art week bash, PAMM Presents, which kicks off PAMM’s 35th Anniversary. 16. The Standard will be hosting a cocktail in the Garden in honor of Zoe Buckman’s latest work, He Calls This Talk Banter, a neon garden gallery addressing violence and the domestic sphere, conceptualized from statements the artist has either said, heard, remembered, or read in the past year pertaining to sexual violence, bleeding, and BDSM taking place on December 6. 23. Re-Envision Magazine is launching its premiere issue with a pop-up gallery in the Fontaine ballroom at Fontainebleau Miami Beach. 24. MAXIM magazine will celebrate their December 2018 issue with a party during this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach. On Friday, December 7. MAXIM will transform The Plymouth South Beach Hotel into an outdoor lounge hosted by cover model Chase Carter. Good Luck Dry Cleaners, the well-known New York-based speakeasy art gallery and lifestyle brand, will be curating an exclusive Art Basel edition pop-up at led by Phil Reese and Jeremy Penn who will be on site during the event to unveil their work. On Friday, December 7 from 7-10 PM, W South Beach’s WET will play host to celebrity and fashion Brazilian photographer Marcos Mello as he conducts a live photo shoot of Brazilian supermodel Isabeli Fontana as Victoria’s Secret Angel Barbara Fiahlo gives her first live performance. 2201 Collins Ave, Miami Beach

28. The 18th annual Sagamore Brunch will be on December 8 from 9 AM – 1 PM. There will be music and performances by Jason Newsted and The Chophouse Band. 1671 Collins Ave, Miami Beach

 

29. Don Rimx and Carlitos Skills, will bring to life Puerto Rican traditions via a beautiful 50-foot mural – two very different artistic styles will mesh into one, to showcase a fresh and interesting perspective of the Island.
