Art on Paper 2016 opened last night to a record attendance of over 4,500 collectors, curators, museum directors, and art lovers, ushering in the fair’s much anticipated second edition with entertainment, drinks, food and an eye-popping installation by Li Hongbo presented by Klein Sun Gallery (above). Check out our list of must-see booths.
Ruiz-Healy Art, Booth 609
The mother-daughter duo behind Ruiz-Healy art is enough reason to check out this booth. Ruiz-Healy Art represents an international roster of artists and places emphasis on a Latin American, borderland, and Texas discourse.
Castor Gallery, Booth 617
Castor Gallery’s cartoonish booth is dedicated to the work of Javier Calleja, the Spanish born artist who studied under the tutelage of Yoshitomo Nara.
Shoshana Wayne Gallery, Booth 403
It’s hard not to miss Rachel Lachowicz’s geometric hand-cut cardboard boxes that have been precisely stacked on top of each other.
The Quogue Gallery, Booth 117
The Quogue Gallery is Quogue’s first and only private art gallery, so we knew we had to stop by this booth which was dedicated to showing the works of Arthur Pinajian.
Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, Booth 104
The above piece is what caught our eye when we stopped at Kathryn Markel’s booth. The artist Sarah Irvin, writes cursive text on a smooth surface with ink and then uses a squeegee to destroy the marks she have created. The ink spreads across surface into a new composition.
