Celebrating its 36th the Photography Show will be running all weekend long and will exhibit more that 85 of the world’s leading photography art galleries. If you can make it to the opening night preview, you can enjoy the photographs accompanied by a cocktail and some hors d’oeuvres. Otherwise, we suggest you check out the show during the week.

April 12th

Opening: The Untitled space and Syra Arts, Debunking Orientalism: A Group Show of Contemporary Egyptian Art

If you are a fan of Eastern art, this show is for you, featuring works of both emerging and established artists out of numerous regions of Egypt including Cairo, Beheira, Sohag, and Alexandria. While all the artists are from Egypt, that does not mean that their work will be similar, all working in their mediums and styles, the pieces will reflect the conflict Egyptians have with Orientalism coinciding with their recent political struggles.

Party: The Drawing Center’s 2016 Spring Benefit Gala

The Drawing Center’s 2016 Spring Benefit Gala will honor Cecily Brown and Ann Philbin. Guests will enjoy cocktails and Sol LeWitt Wall Drawing #124, followed by dinner, all taking place at Capitale. Purchase tickets.

 

April 13th

Looking to stretch your creative muscles but have no creative skills? Whether you are just a fan of coloring or truly in need of a catharsis, here is your opportunity! Black will be hosting the Pop-Up coloring Bar, which will provide both the opportunity to color and listen to a discussion about the therapeutic factors of art.

Friday April 15th

Party: Aperture Spring Party

While the seated dinner is already sold out, party tickets are still available for the event, and really who wants to sit and eat dinner while they could be dancing to the tunes od DJ Stefan Ruiz and Al-Veez? The event will celebrate the publication of The Photographer’s Cookbook; a book witch features recipes accompanied by photographs from numerous leading artists from the 70’s. The party will also include a live performance by EXP, the K-Pop phenomenon.

Aperture Gallery and Bookstore, 547 West 27th Street, 4th Floor, 9pm – midnight. This is a ticketed event.

It’s the perfect way to wind down after a crazed week. I you are a fan of vintage cinema then you will want to catch this screening of The Golden Eighties. Released in 1986 the film is a mix of the classical and avant-garde, and worth adding to your internal film rolodex.
