SoArt Lectures: Nikole Hannah-Jones

Conversation moderated by Shervone Neckles-Ortiz

An ART & DESIGN EDUCATION and SCHOOL OF ART EVENT | March 31 | 7-8:30 PM | Higgins Hall Auditorium, 61 St. James Pl., Brooklyn

Co-sponsored by The Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, The Black Alumni of Pratt, and Center K-12

Pratt’s School of Art (SoArt) and the Art & Design Education department are proud to present an evening with Nikole Hannah-Jones for the fourth annual SoArt Lecture.

This year’s event features Nikole Hannah-Jones, an award-winning investigative reporter covering racial injustice for the The New York Times Magazine and creator of the landmark 1619 Project. She was the recipient of the McArthur Fellowship in 2017 and is the co-founder of the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting.

Nikole has written extensively about school re-segregation across the country and chronicled the decades-long failure of the federal government to enforce the landmark 1968 Fair Housing Act. Her first book, “The Problem We All Live With” is coming in 2020. This book will explore Black America’s centuries-long struggle to get an equal education, and why integrated schools are the linchpin of our democracy.

The discussion will be moderated by Shervone Neckles-Ortiz, a Joan Mitchell Foundation grant recipient, 2019 Venice Biennale’s Grenada Pavilion representative, Pratt Institute PreCollege Summer Program attendee, former Brooklyn public high school art teacher, Art & Design Education department visiting instructor and college advisor in the DICE program.

RSVP is required. Seating is limited and is first come first serve.

Doors close strictly at 6:55 PM. Guests are strongly advised to stay for the entire program.

A public reception will follow the event from 8:40-9:30 PM at the Caroline Ladd House, 299 Clinton Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11205.
