In the Deep Silence of Midnight

Curated by Owen Duffy

November 15 – December 13, 2019

Opening Reception:
Friday, November 15th 6-8 pm

In Cixin Liu’s acclaimed first contact novel The Three-Body Problem, a lonely alien “listener” — tasked with monitoring the universe’s noise for signals of life — receives his planet’s first interstellar transmission from Earth. Out of the deep silence of an ineffable midnight, this instance of transference intimately entangles two disparate histories in unfathomable ways. Taking this passage as a point of departure, In the Deep Silence of Midnight wonders about the otherworldly possibilities of art to act as a material and conceptual conduit for energy and experience.
