Derrick Adams: Style Variations at Salon 94

Salon 94 will be officially opening their new headquarters on the Upper East Side (3 E 89th Street) with an inaugural solo exhibition of new work by Derrick Adams on March 20 through April 24.

This will his first exhibition with the gallery since they announced representation.

Derrick Adams: Style Variations is a collection of ten epic paintings of mannequin heads, the last in a series of 20 monumental portraits. Each celebrates Black Joy by reclaiming self-determination through camouflaging, costuming, and fashioning. The suite of paintings are a visual odyssey of the windows of beauty supply stores, wig shops, braiding salons, and hair boutiques of Bed-Stuy, where Adams has lived and worked in for over 15 years.
