Culture Canvas: the Art of Style: an exhibition and artist talk

Visual artist Kavi will be on view with simultaneous exhibitions at SCOPE Miami Beach, opening Tuesday, December 3rd, and with Presenteur at Saks Fifth Avenue Phoenix, until December 31st. With works titled “Bite the Bullet” and “Warrior and the Gypsy”, bullet casings included, Kavi explores gender dynamics, societal expectations versus individual identity, and the impact of culture on personal style.

The Bombay-born, LA-raised visual artist’s newest series includes her signature photographic collaborations featuring Indian-American models, “personal friends, colleagues and also figures encountered via social media – muses embodying positivity, community, and cultural awareness.” Additional works are comprised of mixed media and digital art, colored with watercolor, ink, acrylic and spray paints, with glass, paper collage, and resin embellishments, Kavi’s modern-day ruminations on multicultural identity, which first read as cryptic dreamscapes before layers of further meaning soon unfold.

In a continuance of fashion-oriented partnerships, including a September 2019 exhibition at Bloomingdales, Kavi will also participate in an Artist Talk at Saks Fifth Avenue on Saturday, December 14th – “Culture Canvas: the Art of Style” – alongside Kendall Reynolds, Founder/CEO of Kendall Miles Designs, and Dennita Sewell, Head of the Fashion Department at Arizona State University, also a former fashion curator at the Phoenix Art Museum. The event will include a print giveaway from the artist’s first limited edition series.
