Chapters: Book Arts in Southern California at The Craft & Folk Art Museum

Although Los Angeles/Southern California is often overshadowed by New York and San Francisco as a books arts center in the United States, the region has a long history of innovation in the medium. This exhibition will explore the development of book arts in Southern California starting in the 1960-70s to today. The exhibition will investigate the range of works that can be defined as “book arts” with an emphasis on innovative formats, hand-made works, and small editions. Additionally, an onsite bookmaking shop will be activated with demos and workshops by exhibition artists, area book arts instructors, and local students.
