{"id":4659,"date":"2016-05-06T16:34:36","date_gmt":"2016-05-06T16:34:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artzealous.com\/?p=4659"},"modified":"2016-05-06T16:34:36","modified_gmt":"2016-05-06T16:34:36","slug":"cally-spooner-at-new-museum-on-false-tears-and-outsourcing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artzealous.com\/cally-spooner-at-new-museum-on-false-tears-and-outsourcing\/","title":{"rendered":"Cally Spooner at New Museum: On False Tears and Outsourcing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the midst of Frieze Week, a peak of performative art-world rituals including late-night parties, galas, last-minute admin, and innumerable previews,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> New Museum<\/a> introduces Cally Spooner\u2019s first solo museum exhibition in the United States \u2013\u00a0<em>O<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newmuseum.org\/exhibitions\/view\/cally-spooner-on-false-tears-and-outsourcing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">n False Tears and Outsourcing<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0Inspired by Google management tactics and the artist\u2019s background in the advertising business, Spooner\u2019s debut provides a commentary on the veiled agency of management and performance in today\u2019s corporate environment, where the individual is valued, but only if they are a team player.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artzealous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_0837-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0837\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An installation exploring communication and power dynamics through choreography,\u00a0<em>On False Tears and Outsourcing<\/em>\u00a0features six dancers utilizing movements and techniques learned from rugby players and a movie director. These techniques draw from contact sports, management strategies, and on-screen romance.\u00a0As a constantly evolving \u201crehearsal,\u201d the exhibition allows for continued growth throughout the duration of its time in the New Museum.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday evening&#8217;s opening allowed for guests to watch the dancers perform behind the glass lobby walls while imbibing and mingling. With Spooner&#8217;s\u00a0ready-made real-time radio soundtrack playing in the background, visitors on the ground floor of the New Museum were drawn into the installation as both spectators and participants to the rehearsal happening behind glass walls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artzealous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_0823-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0823\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As fascinating to watch as it is to think about,\u00a0<em>On False Tears and Outsourcing<\/em>\u00a0is an excellent exhibition to behold.
