\u00a0It’s a big week here in New York! With Frieze Week officially upon us, there is no shortage of events, parties, fairs, and openings to attend. Event: Battleground by Ryan\u00a0McNamara\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a part of the Guggenheim’s Works and Proces<\/em>s series, Ryan McNamara will be performing his self-described “Cosplay-Battle-Balette” made for the specific architecture of the Guggenheim’s Theater. If you can’t make it on the\u00a02nd, the show will also take place on the 3rd, and 4th and each performance will be followed by a reception with the artists.<\/p>\n

Opening: Carmen Herrera: Recent Works at Lisson Gallery<\/strong><\/p>\n

To inaugurate its first New York space, Lisson Gallery will be exhibiting the work of Carmen Herrera. The show is a great way to improve your knowledge of Herrera’s work, especially for those of you who intend to attend the Whitney Museums solo show of her working the fall.<\/p>\n

Talk: Soho House & BMW i Art & Design Talk<\/strong><\/p>\n

BMW and Soho House will be hosting a discussion with two great design minds,\u00a0Nicholas Blechman, Creative Director of The New Yorker and Rob Giampietro, Creative Lead for Google Design. The two men will be discussing the issue\u00a0\u201cDigitization and Graphic Design: Blessing or Curse\u201d? The discussion will be followed by a cocktail reception in celebration of the Frieze Art Fair.<\/p>\n

Event: African Film Festival Opening Night Reception & Screening\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Making it’s New York Premier Tanna\u00a0<\/em>by\u00a0Bentley Dean and Martin Butler will be kicking\u00a0off the beginning of the African Film Festival at Lincoln Center. The screening will be followed by a Q&A and reception\u00a0in support of the programs of African Film Festival, Inc.<\/p>\n

Exhibit: Martin Creed: Understanding<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Public Art Fund will be launching its newest project, an exhibition entitled\u00a0Understanding,\u00a0<\/em>which features a 25 foot tall rotating red neon sculpture by Martin Creed. The sculpture will be situated in Brooklyn Bridge Park, which means that it will be the perfect opportunity to get some sun and take a break from the hectic week.<\/p>\n

May 5th <\/strong><\/p>\n

Party: Martin Creed: Understanding After-Party<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once you’ve done your maxin-relaxin at the park, you will be well rested for the after-party the following day. In celebration of\u00a0Understanding\u00a0<\/em>Red Hook Labs will be hosting the afterparty in their event space.<\/p>\n

May 7th<\/strong><\/p>\n

Open House: House Warming Party with the Artists a MONTH2MONTH event<\/strong><\/p>\n

All month long MONTH2MONTH<\/a> will be hosting site specific art events in homes all around the city. To kick off the exhibits artists \u00a0and organizers of the events, Jennifer Dalton and William Powhida will be presiding over the opening reception festivities. The goal of the events is to take place in both ‘luxury’ and ‘affordable’ New York City apartments, in order to start a dialog\u00a0of how class, wealth, and social mobility affect people\u2019s ability to live in New York City.<\/p>\n
