It’s time for another weekly round up of what’s going on in the art world in NYC. This week is a good one, filled with auctions, galas, and openings. It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up some new art and\u00a0to cut a rug at some of the most fun art parties. Check them out below.<\/p>\n

If you are a fan of the American avant-garde movement, then you will be familiar with Guston’s work and excited for this walk down memory lane. The exhibit will take you through the trajectory of Gustons work\u00a0in the 60’s, closely examining how his work changed over the year.<\/p>\n

Wednesday April 27th<\/strong><\/p>\n

Party: Free Arts NYC Annual Art Auction<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s the 17th Annual Art Auction held by Free Arts NYC, the event will celebrate Glen O’Brien and will be hosted by Richard Prince. The Auction held by Paddle8,\u00a0<\/a>will start at 8pm, proceeded by cocktails, a silent auction, and followed by a seated dinner. All proceeds from the event will\u00a0benefit Free Arts NYC’s art based mentoring programs for underserved youth in NYC. The event will be Dj’d by Graham Craig, and should be a good time for anyone looking to score some new pieces while eating and drinking yourself silly.<\/p>\n

Party: Creative Time Gala<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Creative Time Gala is one of the art world’s most anticipated events. This year Creative Time will be honoring Craig Robins and artist Rirkrit Tiravanija. Purchase tickets here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Event: Performance and Artist Roundtable: Disguise<\/strong><\/p>\n

In celebration of the opening night of Disguise: Masks and Global African Art,\u00a0<\/em>the Brooklyn Museum will be hosting an in-depth roundtable with \u00a0artists Brendan Fernandes, Nandipha Mntambo, and Saya Woolfalk and curator Kevin Dumouchelle. Bookending the talk there will be performances\u00a0by dancer Djassi DaCosta Johnson of Fernandes\u2019s\u00a0In Touch<\/em>\u00a0(6:30 and 8:30 p.m) for fans of African art, it should be a lively and fascinating\u00a0evening.<\/p>\n

The Brooklyn Museum of Art<\/a>,\u00a0200 Eastern Parkway\u00a0Brooklyn, New York, the event starts at 7pm. There will be a limited number of free tickets\u00a0available on a first come, first served basis at the Admissions Desk starting at 6 p.m.<\/em><\/p>\n

For those with an appreciation for music, this show is for you. The Bushwick branch of Luring Augustine will be hosting the first ever solo exhibition of the musician\/composer\/artist Jason Moran. Moran’s work focuses on the relationship between music, art, and language in a variety of media’s. Throughout its run, STAGED will feature\u00a0live musical performances including a few from the artist himself, so if you can’t make it to the opening, you can still be sure to see a good show.<\/p>\n

Friday April 29th<\/strong><\/p>\n

Party: BOMB 35th Anniversary Gala<\/strong><\/p>\n

BOMB will be hosting its 35th Anniversary Gala, honoring Joan Jonas, Par Steir, Betsy Sassier, and Frederic Tuten. The event will also feature an Auction on Paddle8<\/a>, all of the proceeds of which will go towards BOMB’s 35-year goal of publishing free in-depth articles with artists. If you can’t swing the expensive ticket\u00a0for the Gala, there will be an after-party at\u00a0Tropical 128 in the Lower East Side being DJ’d by\u00a0Lanny Jordan Jackson,\u00a0Jessi Olsen, and\u00a0Damian Manire.<\/p>\n
