The night was filled with performances and readings by notable award-winning artists, all Ucross alumni, including Ricky Ian Gordon (Grapes of Wrath, opera), Steven Lutvak (A Gentleman\u2019s Guide to Love and Murder), bestselling author Tayari Jones, author and Vanity Fair contributor Elissa Schappell, composer\/pianist Dylan Mattingly, trumpeter Frank London, and singer-songwriter Kate Schutt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_28853\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28853\" style=\"width: 534px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-28853\" src=\"http:\/\/artzealous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/David-Remnick-with-Annie-Proulx-e1528316730135.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"534\" height=\"801\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28853\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">David Remnick, Annie Proulx, \u00a9Patrick McMullan, Jared Siskin\/PMC<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The evening, which was emceed by\u00a0television screenwriter William &#8220;Bill&#8221; Broyles, included artwork from Ucross visual artist alumni as well as a cocktail hour. You can still view the artwork <a href=\"http:\/\/gala.ucrossfoundation.org\/art-sale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The highlight of the evening was\u00a0the presentation of the Ucross Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Arts, which was presented to Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx. Residencies are awarded to nearly one hundred artists each year.
