On Wednesday, April 12, 2018,\u00a0Free Arts NYC<\/a>\u00a0honored legendary Conceptual Artist\u00a0Lawrence Weiner\u00a0at the\u00a0Free Arts NYC Annual Art Auction<\/a>.\u00a0 Guests descended on the\u00a0Ukrainian Institute of America<\/a>\u2014housed in the historic Harry F. Sinclair mansion and were treated to an exhibition of aspiring teenage artists from\u00a0Free Arts NYC\u2019s Creative Career Exploration, Portfolio Mentorship, and Museum & Studio Visit Programs<\/p>\n

Upon entering, guests were greeted with Lawrence Weiner\u2019s text piece, \u201cLearn to Read Art\u201d as they ascended a grand staircase adorned with hanging floral gardens. Attendees enjoyed a live performance by experimental jazz ensemble,\u00a0Onyx Collective<\/a>, Winc,\u00a0Avion Tequila, and\u00a0Tito\u2019s Vodka\u00a0cocktails from\u00a0The Sexton Single Malt Speakeasy, and sipped on\u00a0Perrier-Jou\u00ebt<\/a> Grand Brut\u00a0champagne.<\/p>\n

Fashion and art collided at the auction in the form of fashion label Sacai<\/a> who supported the evening and whose Spring Summer 2018 collection incorporates Lawrence Weiner’s iconic text art. It took a lot of willpower for us not to steal CNN Anchor Kate Bouldan’s studded Sacai jacket.<\/p>\n

Mia Moretti served up the music as guests made their way to the dining room which was covered with Lawrence Weiner\u2019s iconic wall pieces. The tablescapes were also a Lawrence Weiner x Sacai production. As the evening winded down, dinner guests exited with home gift bags filled\u00a0with Lawrence Weiner coffee table books published by\u00a0Phaidon<\/a>, and Lawrence Weiner x Sacai fabric napkins.<\/p>\n
