Now that everyone seems to be coming out of hibernation, we’ve rounded up five events happening in NYC this weekend that are worth checking out. From Laurie Simmon’s feature film debut to the much-anticipated “Solid Light Works” by Anthony McCall at Pioneer Works<\/a>, check out these events below.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Opening: “Movers and Shapers: Justine Hill and Ali Silverstein”<\/a> at Victori + Mo, 6-9PM<\/p>\n

VICTORI + MO presents Movers and Shapers<\/em>, a dual exhibition of new works from New York-based painter Justine Hill and her Los Angeles contemporary Ali Silverstein. 2.\u00a0<\/strong>Laur<\/a>ie Simmons’ “My Art” at\u00a0Quad Cinema<\/a>, 7PM<\/p>\n

Acclaimed photographer Laurie Simmons stars in her directorial debut, a funny, fanciful, and decidedly feminist take on a personal and professional midlife crisis. Escaping the city for a friend\u2019s summer house upstate, 65-year-old artist Ellie (Simmons) finds inspiration in the out-of-work actors (Robert Clohessy and Josh Safdie) who maintain the grounds. 3. Opening: Anthony McCall “Solid Light Works”<\/a> at Pioneer Works, 7-9PM<\/p>\n

Pioneer Works presents Anthony McCall\u2019s “Solid Light Works,” opening on January 12, 2018 and on view through March 11. This exhibition marks the artist\u2019s first institutional exhibition in New York and first time that his vertical installations will be shown alongside their horizontal variants. The epic vertical and horizontal installations will fill Pioneer Works\u2019 monumental main hall, which will be completely blacked out and immersed in haze.\u00a0Pioneer Works, 159 Pioneer Street<\/em><\/p>\n

4. “David Zwirner: 25 Years”<\/a> at David Zwirner, 6-8PM<\/p>\n

This in-gallery program is presented on the occasion of Fictions<\/em>, a survey of recent work by nineteen emerging artists of African descent who live and work across the United States. The artists in the exhibition engage with a variety of media, drawing inspiration from diverse sources\u2014such as everyday objects, childhood memories, current and historic events, and the body\u2014often creating parallel or alternate narratives that complicate fact, fiction and memory. Visual narrator and photographer Texas Isaiah and figurative painter Walter Price will discuss representing black personhood across mediums.\u00a0The Studio Museum in Harlem, 144 West 125th Street, New York,\u00a0NY\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
