{"id":20648,"date":"2017-08-17T11:13:40","date_gmt":"2017-08-17T11:13:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artzealous.com\/?p=20648"},"modified":"2017-08-17T12:53:13","modified_gmt":"2017-08-17T12:53:13","slug":"sneak-peek-booth-gallery-presents-maria-kreyn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artzealous.com\/sneak-peek-booth-gallery-presents-maria-kreyn\/","title":{"rendered":"Sneak Peek: Booth Gallery Presents Maria Kreyn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulboothgallery.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Booth Gallery<\/a>\u00a0recently announced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulboothgallery.com\/exhibition\/may-you-live-in-interesting-times-maria-kreyn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>May You Live In Interesting Times<\/em><\/a>, a solo exhibition of work by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mariakreyn.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maria Kreyn<\/a>\u00a0that will run from August 19 through\u00a0September 9, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20660\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20660\" style=\"width: 502px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-20660\" src=\"http:\/\/artzealous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Kreyn-in-the-wake-graphite-on-mylar-54-x-42-inches-1-e1500433529744.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"502\" height=\"395\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20660\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><span style=\"color: #808080;\">In the Wake<\/span><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Named after a supposed Chinese saying and curse made famous in a speech by Robert F. Kennedy, the exhibition will feature graphite drawings that explore scenes that are, for better or for worse, &#8220;interesting.&#8221;\u00a0Her work\u00a0includes\u00a0ambiguous vignettes of body parts and masses of huddled figures, suggesting a foreboding darkness while simultaneously allowing for different readings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20661\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20661\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-20661\" src=\"http:\/\/artzealous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/DSC08951-Maria-Kreyn-_12.11.-12.-17.-12.42-pilgrims-graphite-on-mylar-copy-e1500433581978.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"635\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20661\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>Wanderers<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to Kreyn, &#8220;Irony and confusion are interwoven for an array of possible interpretations, celebrating contradiction and the unpredictable nature of the future.&#8221; She wants viewers to wonder: &#8220;Do the feet belong to a dancer, a pilgrim, a refugee? Are the figures sleeping, sexually charged, dead? In the space of destruction, is something else being saved?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20662\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20662\" style=\"width: 507px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-20662\" src=\"http:\/\/artzealous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/P5210535-feet-_-graphite-on-mylar--e1500433652516.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"507\" height=\"507\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20662\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Wanderer\u2019s Feet<\/span><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Born in Russia and currently based in Brooklyn, Kreyn is a figurative artist influenced by the Baroque and Romantic periods. Her work has been exhibited across the world, including the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.numulosgatos.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Museum Los Gatos<\/a>, Beijing World Art Museum, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.panoslo.no\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Galleri Pan<\/a> in Oslo, Norway.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There will be an opening reception on August 19, 2017, at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em><b>Booth Gallery <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a New York City based art gallery representing both local and international artists.
