The surreal soiree took place at Madame X in Soho with specialty house cocktails inspired by the works of outsider artist Henry Darger. The intimate upstairs lounge was illuminated by <a href=\"http:\/\/jennifermayreiland.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jennifer Reiland\u2019s<\/a> video installation, \u201cThe Arena,\u201d selected by Young Folk\u2019s Leadership Committee as the winner of their annual art commission.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artzealous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/S3J_0931-e1493390995663.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"487\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Emma Williams, Emily Counihan, Nicole Burgan <\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DJ James Mulry kept the beats going all night, while downstairs guests enjoyed salon-style Polaroid portraits by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynfilmcamera.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brooklyn Film Camera<\/a>. The event raised funds for the <a href=\"http:\/\/folkartmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Folk Art Museum<\/a>, helping to keep this unique institution completely free and open to the public in the heart of Lincoln Square.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lansing Moore, Co-Chair of Young Folk, told Art Zealous, \u201cThe American Folk Art Museum explores America\u2019s heritage and identity through the works of self-taught artists from every era. As the official young supporters of the Museum, we at Young Folk take it upon ourselves to create unique experiences through our events to connect NYC\u2019s art world, and especially its young connoisseurs, with the rich variety of these works. Allowing America to speak for itself through artistic voices from every corner of the country and its history has never been more important. Appreciating folk and outsider art means seeking it out, so we challenge ourselves to make each party unique and adventurous in that spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artzealous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/S3J_0731-e1493392443441.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"558\" height=\"423\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Young Folk is the official young supporters group of the American Folk Art Museum.
