Most people want to visit Brazil for its beautiful beaches, sunny weather and friendly atmosphere, but many are not aware of the booming contemporary art scene in the country. Although São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro tend to be the most active cities in regards to the arts, you should be setting your sights on the small municipality in Minas Gerais.

The Inhotim Institute, located in Brumadinho, was brought to life in the 1980’s by former mining magnate Bernardo Paz. Collecting artworks from all over the world, the Institute consists of a series of pavilions and galleries with works of art and sculptures on display. Luckily, Brazil’s weather is almost always pleasant, so spectators are invited to visit the gardens, explore the forest landscapes and actively experience the space all year long.

Inhotim aims to provide the community with access to cultural assets, bringing them in contact with some of the most relevant artworks from the contemporary scene around the world. We want to give you a little taste of this treasured space by showing you our ten favorite artworks, hopefully giving you one more reason to visit Brazil!
