TRAPS!, new work by Ebecho Muslimova at Magenta Plains

Brooklyn-based artist Ebecho Muslimova will present her second solo show, TRAPS!, at Magenta Plains from October 30 – December 18, 2019. The artist will fill the gallery’s two floors with five new large scale paintings and three new framed works on paper that will all feature the artist’ alter-ego, Fatebe (pronounced “FAT EEBEE”), having her body contorted and compressed against the harsh realities of nature depicted in Muslimova’s art.

In an artistic style that recalls the spatial inventiveness of Velazquez, Muslimova uses Fatebe to collapse the legacies of pop art, feminist critique and underground cartoon illustration into a singular and raw vision of the human female body in all of its vulnerability and power.

Please join Magenta Plains for an opening reception on October 30, 2019 from 6-8pm.
