Timothy Washington at Salon 94 Bowery

Salon 94 Bowery presents Pucker Up, Los Angeles based assemblage artist Timothy Washington’s first solo exhibition on the East Coast to date, opening March 12, 6pm.
This exhibition of Washington’s wondrous, ethereal sculptural figures and totems spans sixty years of his practice. Alongside rare, early work from the 1960s and 1970s, there will be a constellation of his legendary polychromatic figures decorated and bejeweled with ephemera given from family and friends throughout life. Washington’s sculptures are made by sculpting glue-saturated cotton around wire armatures that, once dry, create a hardened textured encasement. Intimate effects, including pieces of jewelry, dish ware, and toys are strategically placed and meaningfully grouped to engender particular readings and sight lines.
