Ryan Oskin: “Five Facets” at The Java Project
July 16th – August 12th
Opening Reception: Saturday July 16th 6-9pm
“Five Facets” is Ryan Oskin’s first solo exhibition of his ongoing body of work, Under Construction. These works utilize imagery sourced from work sites throughout New York City as a catalyst for sculptures and installations. In this iteration, he addresses the materiality of the exhibition space both inside and outside. Each work inside reacts to the varying surfaces present by adjoining, sealing, puncturing, and assimilating to the existing brick, drywall, glass, and flooring. The exhibition continues outside with a series of partitions that considers these structures as both a retainer and obstruction.
Ryan Oskin investigates natural and constructed spaces through photography, sculpture, and installation. He is a current resident at Artha Project in Long Island City, Queens. His work has been shown throughout New York City and the United States at the Prints and Multiple Fair in Baltimore, Johalla Project in Chicago, Press Street in New Orleans, Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, and underneath the 6th Street Bridge in Los Angeles. He graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Photography in 2012. He currently lives in Brooklyn, N.Y.
