Projects 104: Nástio Mosquito Exhibition at The MoMA
Nástio Mosquito’s multidisciplinary practice bridges performance, music, video, installation, sound, and poetry. ForProjects 104, he explores the distinction between the human characteristics of anger and bitterness, probing this topic through songwriting, theater, and spoken word poetry. Mosquito is interested in the fluid possibilities of language both as a means of expression and as a tool for empowerment. For this work, Respectable Thief, Mosquito begins with a set of text fragments that recur and recombine across the Project’s three elements: a single performance staged in various locations throughout the Museum; a video installation; and several visual and sonic interventions across MoMA’s existing media platforms, including the display screens in the lobby, Kids audio tour, and select social media channels. Born in Angola, Mosquito lives and works in Ghent, Belgium. This is his first solo exhibition in a US museum.
