“Now Be Here #2, NYC” at the Brooklyn Museum

In conjunction with the kickoff week of A Year of Yes: Reimagining Feminism at the Brooklyn Museum, celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, the Brooklyn Museum is proud to present “Now Be Here #2, NYC,” a continuation of “Now Be Here,” the Los Angeles event conceived by California-based artist Kim Schoenstadt.
The Los Angeles event was hosted by Hauser Wirth & Schimmel Gallery in late August, and gathered nearly 750 female and female-identifying artists for a group portrait with the purpose of recognizing and celebrating the power and diversity of women artists practicing in Los Angeles.
The Brooklyn Museum’s iteration will take place on Sunday, October 23, 2016, and will likewise portray an inter-generational and inclusive snapshot of New York’s female and female-identifying artists. New York-based Brooklyn Museum collection artist Shinique Smith and Schoenstadt are working together to oversee the event’s proceedings. Hosting an expected group of around 1,000 artists in the Brooklyn Museum’s historic Beaux-Arts Court, Smith and Schoenstadt will be joined by noted photographer Paola Kudacki, who will capture the group portrait, marking a moment in history for the Museum and for the larger artist community. The photograph will be presented in an online archive along with the names of the artists in attendance to share the collective portrait beyond the Now Be Here event.
Due to the limited capacity of this special event, invitation and RSVP is essential. Artists with questions should contactnowbeherenyc@brooklynmuseum.org for more information.
