‘Mumbling Beauty Louise Bourgeois’ Alex Van Gelder and Jerry Gorovoy in Conversation

To celebrate the release of ‘Mumbling Beauty Louise Bourgeois’, join Alex Van Gelder, photographer and friend of the late Louise Bourgeois, at New York Public Library for a revealing account of his intimate project photographing the much-revered artist. Van Gelder’s presentation will be followed by a conversation with Jerry Gorovoy, Bourgeois’s close friend and President of The Easton Foundation. They will discuss the challenges and surprises of collaborating with the complex artist and explore Van Gelder’s other photographic projects. The conversation will be moderated by Arezoo Moseni, Senior Librarian at New York Public Library.

From 2008 to 2010, Bourgeois allowed Alex Van Gelder into her home and studio and indulged his lens, while she worked, rested and waited. She fills the camera with her presence. It is a profound portrait of an artist of the utmost consequence and serves as a piercing study of extreme age.

‘Mumbling Beauty Louise Bourgeois’ (Thames & Hudson, 2015) is available for purchase and signing at the end of event.
