James Allister Sprang: Fragment Scape and Jia Sung: Chaos, Whims, Lust

Knockdown Center is pleased to present two exhibitions: James Allister Sprang: Fragment Scape and Jia Sung: Chaos, Whims, Lust from November 2 – December 15, 2019.

James Allister Sprang: Fragment Scapes is the artist’s first solo exhibition in New York. The exhibition comprises two corresponding bodies of work: a selection of floor-based photo-sculptures and a new series of cyanotypes. The series within the exhibition serve as memorials and tributaries, and call into question limiting modes by which blackness is seen, perceived, and surveilled. Jia Sung: Chaos, Whims, Lust, takes the form of a spatialized book. Comprised of figurative ink and gouache drawings and accompanied by verse and prose poetry, a narrative that examines the role of the female trickster can be read by moving through the space.
