Hugo Boss Prize 2018: Simone Leigh Conference “Loophole of Retreat” at the Guggenheim
Inspired by writer, abolitionist, and escaped slave Harriet Jacobs’s autobiographical performance of freedom within her incarceration, this daylong gathering dedicated to the intellectual life of Black women will bring together an international constellation of writers, artists, poets, filmmakers, and activists. Artist and Hugo Boss Prize 2018 winner Simone Leigh, feminist scholar Tina Campt (Barnard College), and cultural historian Saidiya Hartman (Columbia University) have invited participants to respond to a series of keywords as open-ended points of departure for papers, performances, and conversations.
