Hammer Projects: Simone Leigh at The Hammer Museum
The New York based multidisciplinary artist will debut a new body of work at the Hammer, her first museum survey in Los Angeles.
Simone Leigh (b. 1968, Chicago, Illinois) works across ceramics, sculpture, video, and installation to address the construction of black female subjectivity. Her practice is largely research based and intersectional, and considers a range of sources, including art of the African diaspora, ethnography, feminist discourse, and representations of women in popular culture. Hammer Projects: Simone Leigh is the artist’s first museum survey in Los Angeles, following a commission for the Fowler Museum in 2013.
