Felix R. Cid ’Venuses’ at Garis & Hahn
View Garis & Hahn’s presentation of Felix R. Cid’s ‘Venuses’ on permanent display until the end of July in the window of their NYC, Bowery located gallery. After announcing the relocation of the gallery last month, this will be one of the last Garis & Hahn projects in New York before opening a new, dedicated Los Angeles space in early 2017.
Venuses is a body of work comprising of seven vertical, color images of people sleeping in the streets of seven cities: London, Milan, Paris, New York, New Haven, Madrid, and Barcelona. Cid transforms the sleeping figures by mirroring one half of the photograph to create a symmetrical “abstraction”. A simple but aggressive move that creates an original form, which is then brought to life by displaying the hundreds of images in rapid succession – documenting the subtle movement of an unseen and anonymous subject breathing and shifting.
