“FEED ME” at Associated Gallery

Associated is pleased to Present: Feed Me
On view for one night only during the opening reception: Saturday, July 30, 7-10pm
245 Varet St. Brooklyn, NY 3rd Fl.

The history of art can be traced within a cornucopia of still lifes exhibited throughout world’s museums and homes. Some of the first known works were perhaps inspired by food, or at the very least the hunt and acquisition of sustenance. One of the most important works of modern art, Manet’s Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe showcases an outdoor feast. Even in the pop age, one of the most recognizable works of art is a can of Campbell’s soup. Perhaps it is the open endedness of food and it’s intimate connection with culture that entices artist to create.
“Feed Me” is an exhibition that brings together artists working across the food spectrum. Much as a sandwich stacks differing elements into a diverse whole, we have chosen artists that represent a range of mediums and themes, concentrating on practices that relate to the perilous consumption of late capitalist America and examine interpersonal and social rituals.
