“Beyond the Gaze: Women Painting Women,” continues to reckon with the categorical confines that exist historically in representation, especially inherent in a culture where a definitive stereotype of beauty exists and sex sells. This exhibition instead focuses on identifying, for the sake of progressing, the pressure and sensitivities female painters deal with when working in an arena dominated by a specific, romanticized canon.
