Anna Walinska: Return to the Riverside

From 1954-1971, Anna Walinska (1906-1997) exhibited frequently at what was then the Riverside Museum at 310 Riverside Drive, alongside emerging artists including Louise Nevelson, Milton Avery, Jasper Johns, Barnett Newman, Alice Neel, Ethel Schwabacher, Sari Dienes and Lily Ente. Walinska also had a studio in the building, and it was there that she created cutting edge work with new materials like Burmese Shan paper and spray paint in a can.

Works created by Walinska in this building have been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, the Jewish Museum, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the Baltimore Museum of Art, Le Chateau de la Napoule in France, and the Muzeum Ghetta at Theresienstadt in the Czech Republic. Paintings from this period are now in numerous private and public collections, including The Jewish Museum, the Denver Art Museum, and Yad Vashem.

Curated by Michael Alicia and Jan Fort. Framing by Ilana Lobet Studio.
