A Tale of Two Crises: Reading Images of Social Epidemic

This panel discussion will examine how America’s war on drugs has been framed in media, policy, and visual culture, with particular attention to the similarities and differences between the current opioid crisis and the crack epidemic of the 1980s. Imagemakers Jeffrey Stockbridge and Ivan Flores, along with scholars Helena Hansen and Michael Shaw, will use images as an entry point to discuss visibility, race, and media reportage on this critical issue.
