Arte Povera at Hauser & Wirth

Unfolding across three floors of Hauser & Wirth’s West 22nd Street location, ‘Arte Povera. Curated by Ingvild Goetz’ presents a comprehensive overview of influential Italian twentieth-century art movement, curated by one of its most important collectors. Ringing in a new era of artistic practice, Arte Povera emerged fifty years ago against the backdrop of a political and social reawakening that defined Italy in the 1960s and ‘70s, and challenged traditional definitions of art by championing radical approaches to form and process. This exhibition features more than 150 works from many of Arte Povera’s leading figures: Claudio Abate, Giovanni Anselmo, Alighiero e Boetti, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Giorgio Colombo, Luciano Fabro, Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, Paolo Mussat Sartor, Giulio Paolini, Pino Pascali, Giuseppe Penone, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Emilio Prini, and Gilberto Zorio. Also on view will be a vast collection of archival materials – exhibition catalogs, invitations, and documentary photographs – capturing the history of the movement.
